Instead of a grid system, I made a giant compass from measured cord and a chalk staff. I mapped out the concentric circles and the whole team joined in on coloring it all in. For the sun rays, I cut the shape out of tarp in advance so we could just trace the shape. I conceived of using a flat sheet of PET, with die cut holes positioned so that when rolled, would suspend the pens in mid-air. A high impact polystyrene base and cap for a finished look. I wanted as large a window as possible so that the pens could be viewed from all sides and let in the most amount of light possible. I experimented with a completely cylindrical shape, but found it to be unstable in supporting the Helix stand inside. Adding the CCNB insert gave me the ability to stabilize the stand inside the package and reduce cost by eliminating some PET. The result would go on to be a multi-million dollar item and the fastest selling Back-to-School item at BJ's Wholesale Club for 2014. Credit to Garry Booth for the great initial concept work. I designed the graphics in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS6. The Polyurethane in this prototype was so light weight, he flew over 200 feet into the air with a solid stomp on the enhanced bellows system I designed. Licensing restrictions required that we adapt all the Marvel Heroes to riding vehicles. The Wolverine Action Cycle was a prototype for a mini sized air launch system that you pounded with your fist.
